Lotte Reiniger

I don't remember what I was searching for when I found the work of Lotte Reiniger.  Maybe I was doing some research on Chinese shadow puppets or paper cuttings?  But it was one of those "I LOVE THE INTERNET" moments.

She's a pioneer and a genius, the grandmother of animation.  More about her.

This is a great documentary about her life and work. (part 1)

Oh I love Lotte! She was one of the reasons why I became an animator. I think I saw that documentary either on public TV channel or in my history of animation class. Really inspiring. So many great women animators from the past that usually are never talked about because it was a male dominated field. (ahem disney) XD

Thanks for posting this! xoxo

She was so revolutionary... I believe she worked with her husband as well?

A friend of mine dug up a Nivea commercial she did:
